Description:
In 1923 Elmer Rice presented the public with The Adding Machine, and the critics hailed it as the American form of expressionism, despite the playwright's demurral. The hero, put out of work by an adding machine, kills his boss, goes to heaven, and is taught to operate an adding machine before being returned to earth again
