Photographic illustrations and statistical charts and diagrams depicting the state organization, national economy, welfare and culture in the U.S.S.R. El Lissitzky, who was also primary artist, designed this book along with Grigorovich and Nikolaev for the 1939 World's Fair in New York. In 1931 Otto Neurath helped the Soviet authorities establish an institute of pictorial statistics in Moscow. It was named the 'All-Union Institute of Pictorial Statistics of Soviet Construction and Economy' or, more commonly, the Izostat Institute. This book exhibits a groundbreaking style of graphs & illustrations as well as many photographs, in 140 (9) pages including maps and portraits, with some color. Includes an extra leaflet, inserted preceding last page, 13 P. in Russian “Nauchno-izdatel'skiy institut Izobrazitel'noy statistiki SSSR : Izostatisticheskiy albom, Illustriruiushchiy gosudarstvennoe ustroystvo i narodnoe khozyaystvo SSSR = Statistical album illustrating the state structure and national economy of the USSR. Atlas is a collection of basic indices of the economic and cultural growth of the U.S.S.R. In oblong folio, red heavy covers with gilt hammer and sickle in upper left corner of front cover and USSR on spine, in red dust cover, with El Lissitzky – USSR in gilt on spine.
