First edition of the lunar atlas with drawings of 25 areas of the Moon on 20 lithographed plates in the printed beige paper cover case, by Fauth the lunar cartographer who relied principally on visual observations. His Lunar topographical formations were superb, both in their representation and accuracy, and he quickly became well respected in astronomical circles. The present, early atlas dates from Fauth's period at a private observatory at Kaiserslautern. The correct number of plates is 20, as numbered XXI, plate XII was never published (as per contents sheet: 'fehlt'). Inside front cover: Zu gefl. Beachtung. Includes hachures to indicate the length and steepness of the slopes of the various features.
