Covers consist of two slip boxes - one for the original 20 sheets and the second for the 27 additional sheets. All are included in this set. The smaller box is light brown with an extremely ornate spine in gilt and reading, "General-Karte der Oesterreichischen Monarchie von Scheda." The larger box is plain black with no ornamentation or text.

By Joseph Scheda, Engineer of the Geographic Corps, Militarisch Geografischen Institute, Austria. Comprised of 47 sheets, each dissected into 6 sections. Incredible detail throughout the map. A triumph of Austrian/German engraving. First 20 sheets done in 1856 - see Pub List No 0879.000. However this set also includes them. Adjacent 27 sheets done in 1871. With an index map of the fist 20 sheets entitled, "Uibersichts - Blatt." Scheda lived from 1815-1888 (Phillips) and did a Hand Atlas in 1879 with A. Steinhauser (Phillips 6201). Outline color.
