Pub Note:
Carletti's huge map of Naples was begun in 1750 when financing for the project was secured from the civic tribunal of San Lorenzo. 25 years were spent making the map which was published in 1775. It is considered the most important map of Naples from the 18th century. Originally under the direction of Giovanni Carafa, after his death in 1769 the project was taken over by Giovanni Pignatelli. The entire map was engraved by Giuseppe Aloja and published by Carletti with his corrections and the addition of his accompanying extensive topographical and historical index.
