No publisher or date on title page - British Museum entry and Tooley Dictionary of mapmakers indicating Edinburgh, John Ainslie, and London, W. Faden. An unusual atlas of keyed outline maps for students, very elegantly drawn. It may be related to Faden's Geographical Exercises of 1777. The British Museum copy is dated 1782, with the maps dated 1st Jan. 1782, which is four years later than this copy. This atlas is dated by the maps, which each read "Published as the Act directs 1st July 1778." It would be interesting to know how the British Museum knew that Ainslie and Faden published this. Young's Atlas, representing 23 outline hand colored maps of the continents, countries, kingdoms and empires, showing political and administrative divisions, some place names, rivers, lakes and mountains. Relief shown pictorially. Bound in quarter leather reddish marbled paper covered boards with the title on the spine reading "Young's Atlas."
