Pub Note:
The first maps issued by the Ordnance Survey were made in ten parts, Essex being the first part and Devon the second. The maps were printed with partial borders so they would join together to made a single map of eight sheets in the case of Devon. The ten parts covered generally the southern coast of England. When the parts were completed, the survey switched to issuing maps according to the standard grid and sheet lines. These early issues are very strong engraving impressions, compared to the later issues of the same sheets.
