A later edition of the same guide published in 1851 by Ensign & Thayer (see our #1824). The map is substanially changed from the 1851 edition - new counties in Iowa and Wisconsin, Kansas shown, new railroads, etc. Full color. Covers are a red leather embossed in gold with a decorative border and beautiful illustrations of a steamboat and train. Front cover reads "Ensign, Bridgman & Fanning's Travellrs' Guide Through The Western States." with "travellers'" mispelled. Prime meridian is Washington D.C.
