Note:
This copy has been removed from an atlas and is numbered 39 on the verso (We can find no record of this atlas in any collections - the only notice of it appears on the index page of Wilkinson's smaller General Atlas). This map was also published separately. Originally published in 1804 (see our #5156), it was reissued by Wilkinson in 1824 and by Darton in 1826. No changes have been made from the 1804 edition, making the map hopelessly out of date politically and topographically (the American West is pre Lewis and Clark). Wheat pounces on the 1824 edition (which he incorrectly dates 1823) calling it "perhaps the strangest, most atavistic map of North America." Thought of as an 1804 map, however, it is a very good production. See the copy on linen by R. Gray, Glasgow, 1811. Map has full and outline color. Includes list of United States' areas confirmed by Treaty of 1783 and British possessions. Relief shown by hachures. Prime meridian is Greenwich.
