Narrative description:
British measures against the colonies are ascribed to the influence of Bute. According to BM, the scene may depict the retreat of British troops to Boston after Lexington, or the bombardment of Charlestown during the Battle of Bunker Hill. Images include: John Stuart, Earl of Bute, in highland dress; Simon Fraser, Master of Lovatt; British navy; Boston; William Murray, Lord Mansfield, in wig, robes, and coronet; English soldiers, horrified; Scottish soldiers; Alexander Wedderburn, Solicitor General.
