Investment schemes. [Law laughing, the shareholders mourning, and Mercury entreating.] John Law laughs as he pours coins from a cornucopia into a teasure chest. In the middle a shareholder surveys useless shares on the grand. Mercury with his winged helmet and caduceus flies away. In the foreground a monkey or ape grovels on the floor, a woman runs in front of a fool (or Bombario) is farting on an orb of sovereignty. In the background is a town labeled Vianen. Also includes a harpy, baskets of jewelry, and coins, a statue blowing bubbles and the sea. Vianen was a "free city" during the Middle Ages and anyone who could pay the toll to enter the city would be granted sanctuary from creditors.
