Narrative description:
Investment schemes. [The falsely-fair share-sphinx springs down from the high rocks, Oedipus having discovered the false secret.] Men stand in front of a mountain from which a sphinx jumps. In the background is also a town labeled, Vianen. A man floats in front of the mountain by means of bladders of air on his person. On one side of the image men are led by a man holding a paper with the South Sea's Company shares on it; one of the man has his pants on fire. On the other side a man vomits while laid over a barrel with a cock (symbol of France) on it. Soldiers behind a fence barricade the way to Vianen. Also includes a cat in a tree and a man riding a goat while blowing on a horn. Vianen was a "free city" during the Middle Ages and anyone who could pay the toll to enter the city would be granted sanctuary from creditors.
